Larter Field Stabilization Project
The Parks and Recreation Commission solicited proposals to assist the Town with assessing and evaluating the condition of Larter Field and developing a comprehensive, long-term solution to the chronic issue of the development of sink holes on the field and the settlement of the field in certain areas.
The scope of work includes an overall assessment and evaluation of the field with the following tasks: land survey, resource area delineation, and field investigation to determine the extent of the problem. Test pit observations and geophysical investigation have been used as methods to determine the size of the problem.
Following this work, the Town plans for a field stabilization preliminary design to be developed along with permitting support, construction drawings and specifications, and the development of procurement documents.
The Town anticipates the stabilization work and Master Planning process to complement and align well with each other. The Master Plan is expected to include a conceptual design layout for the entire park. Items will then be chronologically phased as the community wishes to proceed with future steps and when funding becomes available. In general, the proposed improvements at the field will be designed to improve safety and ADA compliance while also improving the overall functionality of the playground and establish a plan for future investments.
The Master Plan could include conceptual design of various field improvements including but not limited to: a pavilion space, reconstructed basketball courts, life-cycle improvements along the track, softball fencing, little league infield restoration, etc. A written plan will be developed for the upgrades to be performed at the park as well as conceptual level drawings, construction cost estimates and a proposed phasing schedule to keep the park open while future tasks are budgeted or constructed.
Community Engagement will be a part of the Master Planning Process. The Town is planning to conduct an online survey to obtain feedback on various alternatives discussed and will host a public meeting to discuss the alternatives and confirm community support prior to advancing designs beyond the conceptual phase.
Bobrek Engineering and Construction was selected and is currently working with the Town on this project.
