Permit Application Process & Guidelines

Effective January 4th, 2016, the Town of Dunstable adopted online permitting for the submitter of applications for residential and commercial building permits, sheet metal permits, plumbing and gas permits and electrical permits.

Paper permit applications are not accepted. If you do not own a computer or if you need assistance with the application process, you can request an appointment to come into Town Hall here or by calling 978-649-4514 x224..  Same day appointments are almost always available! Please note, any specific questions about the permits you need to pull should be directed to the Building Inspector, who can be reached during his normal office hours, Mondays from 3pm-5pm.

A few important notes:

  • Should plans require review by the Fire Department, Highway Department, Health Department, Planning Department, Conservation Commission, Assessors, Water Department and Zoning and cannot be uploaded with the online application, they must physically be brought to the Building Inspector. His office hours can be found here.
  • For new construction, applicants must contact the Board of Health directly to arrange to appear before them for approval of septic and well designs. Their administrative assistant may be reached by calling (978)-649-4514 ext. 229
  • Payments for Permits can be made 3 ways:

    • Pay online in Permit Link.
    • Pay in person at Dunstable Town Hall.  We accept checks payable to the Town of Dunstable, or Cash.
    • Pay by mail by sending a check to Town of Dunstable, Inspections Department, 511 Main Street Dunstable, MA 01827. Please include the street address of the permit application.
