Upcoming Timber Harvest at Spaulding Proctor Reservation

The Dunstable Conservation Commission will be conducting a timber harvest this late fall and winter season at the Spaulding Proctor Reservation, located off Pleasant and Groton Streets. This work is part of the Commission’s ongoing forest stewardship efforts.
All timber harvesting is carried out under a Forest Cutting Plan that is reviewed and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). These plans ensure that best management practices are followed to protect sensitive areas and enhance wildlife habitat. Licensed foresters oversee the process to ensure responsible and sustainable forest management.
Timber harvesting plays a vital role in maintaining the long-term health of our forests. It helps:
- Prevent overcrowding of trees
- Promote forest regeneration by increasing sunlight and air circulation
- Control the spread of invasive, non-native plant species
- Reduce the risk of insect infestations
- Protect wetlands and improve water quality
Community Site Walk – September 20
Residents are invited to join a community site walk of the Spaulding Proctor Reservation with Forester Gary Gouldrup (MA LF#81) on Saturday, September 20 at 10:00 AM. The group will meet at Dunstable Town Hall (511 Main Street) and caravan to the site together.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about forest management practices and ask questions directly to the experts involved.
