Weekly News for Residents 55 Plus Week Ending 10/3

Thanks to Age Span for offering Free Nutritional Counseling this week- all sessions were filled and great feedback from residents was received.  Also thank you to Comedian David Shikes for getting us laughing and thinking at our special luncheon at Town Hall this past week as well.  

Upcoming Weekly Wednesday Luncheons at The Dunstable Public Library (unless noted otherwise).   Please remember to ensure we have enough food, your reservation for lunch must be made by the prior Wednesday.   You can sign up at the luncheon or by reaching out to Chuck at [email protected] or 978-649-4514x223     A cash donation of $3-5 from those who can afford it, is greatly appreciated t offset costs.  Lunch is served at Noon but the space is available from 10-2 p.m.  Before and after lunch, there are several games you can join in on including Scrabble, Mexican Train Dominoes and Poker.  

October 15 - Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken Option - Space Available, reservations will be accepted until Tuesday 10/14 at  4 p.m. (est) 

October 23- Pizza Party and Celebrating the Birthdays of the month

October 29th-  Turkey Waldorf Salad and Vegetable Soup.   Halloween Party - wear a costume or festive clothing.   We will also be having Halloween Bingo with PRIZES

November 5th-  Location will be at Greater Lowell Vocational School.    Always a great excursion with food prepared and served by the students in their lovely restaurant on campus.   Choice of Baked Haddock or Chicken Pot Pie.    $15 includes gratuity, must be paid in advance to Council on Aging to reserve your spot.  This can be paid at the weekly lunch or brough to town Hall Upper Level ( attention Chuck) please make checks out to Town of Dunstable Council on Aging.     Doors open at 11:00 a.m. with lunch service beginning at 11:30 a.m. 

Bone Builders Excercise Class is free to residents at the Dunstable Public Library on Wednesdays at 10:30 A.M. and Friday at 11:15 A.M.  If you have not participated before, please feel free to stop by to observe and pick up enrollment paperwork.

Fit Over 50 "Barre Fusion Class"  - Due to the holiday on Monday, there will be no class on Monday 10/13.   Class will resume on 10/20 for the final class of the session at 11:30 a.m. at Town Hall Lower Level. $10 drop in.   At that class, we will be collecting for the next 5 week session to ensure that the class can continue.    If you would like to participate in the next session you can pay at the class on 10/20 or anytime prior with $35  - Cash or Check Made out to Dunstable- Council on Aging.    You can leave these payments for Chuck at the Town Hall Upper Level prior to the 20th.  

 Around Town:  Oktoberfest at Larter Field.    One of Dunstable's new favorite events!   Join us for the 2nd annual Festival taking place after the Dunstable Dash 5K.    Starting at noon on Saturday 10/11.  The Beer Guy, Food, Live Music, Games, 50/50 Raffle and more.    Offered by The Dunstable Recreation Commission.

Free Theater Tickets for Seniors - The GD Players are offering free tickets to a matinee show of, Much Ado About Nothing. This show is taking place on November 8th at 2:00 PM at 703 Chicopee Row, Groton in the Black Box Theater.  Just mention to the ticket sellers that you are aware of the Free Ticket Offer for Seniors.

SHINE counselors can help you with all things Medicare

Medicare Open Enrollment: October 15 – December 7.

Health insurance costs are an important part of your budget and Medicare Open Enrollment is your opportunity to review your Medicare plans with a SHINE counselor to learn about what you can expect with your current plan in 2026, or to learn about all options that may be most cost-effective for you.

You may also benefit from cost-savings programs which a SHINE counselor will explain to you.

Medicare plans can change annually, and changes are expected for 2026.

This can affect your health care and drug costs.

SHINE = Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone…on or eligible for Medicare. Certified SHINE counselors are available all year, and offer free, unbiased, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insurance to anyone on or eligible for Medicare.

You can also join an Intro to Medicare session with a SHINE counselor on a Wednesday evening on Zoom, 5:00-7:00 pm: , August 13, September 17, October 22, November 19, December 17.  Call their office and they can share an email link to the Zoom Sessions with you.
