We had a great Senior Luncheon this week at The Greater Lowell Technical High School Restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant has improved since our last visit and as always the students created and served a delicious meal. We had 21 participants who joined us. We are looking forward to returning in the Fall.
Next week, our senior luncheon will be back at the Dunstable Public Library on Wednesday May 21st. Lunch will be A Mexican Fiesta with Steak Fajitas. You can join our free Bone Builders Exercise Group at 10:30 AM to work up an appetite before the meal is served at Noon. Stay afterwards to socialize and play boards games until 2 p.m. For those who can afford it, we do ask for a $3.00 donation for the meal.
In addition to the ongoing Bone Builders Program we are offering two FREE exercise classes run by the YMCA of Greater Lowell. These classes take place on the lower level at Town Hall. Mondays at 11:30 A.M. is Barre Fusion - which combines movement with light weights, it's been described as similar to bone builders but more of a challenge and is attracting those on the younger range that COA supports. Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. is Zumba Gold- all the fun and dancing of a traditional Zumba class but geared for those 55 plus but open to any adult residents who would like to attend. If you haven't checked out these classes, they will only run through July as part of a grant from Greater Lowell Health Alliance, so take advantage of them while you can. Out of town guests are welcome to join for $10.
If you are interested in RING Security Technology, there is an opportunity to take advantage of a pilot program offered by Age Span and Amazon for residents 60 and over. While supplies last, you are eligible for 2 Ring Devices of your choice: Cameras and/or doorbells. These will be installed at your residence at no charge ( no drilling but will be installed with weather proof adhesive strips) and your subscription will also be covered! This is a great opportunity that I suggest you request sooner than later. You can contact Molly Gerbutavich, the digital equity program manager at Age Span at 978-651-3033 or [email protected] and let her know you are interested in the RING program. Update: We have received positive feedback from residents who have taken advantage of this offer. Make sure to act fast as participation is limited and is state wide.
On Tuesday June 3rd, we will be hosting a special event at The Butterfly Place in Westford, MA. We will gather at 12:15 p.m. for a Bring Your Own Lunch in a tented area. Following lunch at 1 p.m. we will visit the exhibit which includes a short video presentation before entering the Butterfly Sanctuary to connect with nature. The Butterfly Place is location that many say leaves them feeling like a kid again. Council on Aging will cover the admittance for the first 20 people who sign up to participate. You can sign up in the library at a senior luncheon or see contact information below.
We also wanted to give a big thanks to the students at Swallow Union and Florence Roche Elementary for hand creating over 100 Birthday Cards that will be mailed out to our residents over 72 years old as part of our long-standing tradition of personally acknowledging birthdays. If you get one of these cards, we'd love for you to send us a photo with you and your card so that we can share it on the town's social media and let the students see who received their artwork. Photos can be emailed to Chuck at [email protected]
The Monthly Wellness Checks at the library have been suspended for July and August. This is due to a staffing issue as well as uncertainty of federal funding. We are hopeful that this program can resume in the future.
