Last week's senior luncheon with Free Massages couldn't have come at a better time with the cold weather and stiff shoulders from shoveling.  Thank you to Moon River Wellness in Pelham, NH for sending a great therapist to work on our seniors as part of an AgeSpan Wellness Grant. 

 Upcoming weekly Wednesday Luncheons at The Dunstable Public Library (unless noted otherwise).   Please remember to ensure we have enough food, your reservation for lunch must be made by the prior Wednesday.   You can sign up at the luncheon or by reaching out to Chuck at [email protected] or 978-649-4514x223    A suggested contribution of $5 from those who can afford it, is greatly appreciated to offset costs, this is voluntary please do not let it stop you from attending.   Lunch is served at Noon but the space is available from 10-2 p.m.  Before and after lunch, there are several games you can join in on including Scrabble & Mexican Train Dominoes.  Please see individual dates for unique entertainment or guests.  

February 4th-Pasta and Meatballs offered by the Dunstable Public Library. 

February 11th-  Chicken & Beef Enchiladas served by The Traveling Chef.     Monthly BINGO game.  Last month was a huge success with prizes over $100.    $5.00 to play 5 games of Bingo and the last game has 3 ways to win.   Bingo Starts immediately following lunch so please arrive by 12:30 p.m. if you are only playing Bingo.    $10 for both Bingo & Lunch. 

February 18th-  Pizza and Salad to celebrate the birthdays of the month.  

February 25th-  Chicken Tenders.   Special Guest Speaker following Lunch.     Age Span 101- Learn all about Age Span the program that provided the free ring cameras, tablets, nutrition counseling and so much more.  Learn about what they offer and how it can benefit you.  

Council on Aging is again partnering with the Highway Department to offer free salt mix delivery to residents who are unable to go to to the pick up location.  Contact Kristina Hooper at  (978) 649-4514 Ext. 227 to request delivery, which may take up to 2 weeks so please plan ahead. If you have participated in this program in the past and have any empty buckets & lids, if you could please return them to The Town Hall Lowel Level ( Road Commission) we have run out and would love to reuse them. You can also bring them to the weekly luncheon.

COUNCIL ON AGING EXERCISE PROGRAM

Bone Builders Exercise Class is free to residents at the Dunstable Public Library on Wednesdays at 10:30 A.M. and Friday at 11:15 A.M.  If you have not participated before, please feel free to stop by to observe and pick up enrollment paperwork.  

FREE!  Fit Over 50 "Fitness Fusion Class"  -  As part of a Wellness Grant from Age Span this has been extended through February.  This is a great class for those who are looking for a class that might be a little more challenging than Bone Builders. This Class Meets Monday Mornings at 11:30 a.m. at Town Hall Lower Level and is FREE!   Fitness Fusion combines a variety of exercise styles to offer a low impact but powerful session that targets all areas of the body with great music and a fun atmosphere with a great instructor from the YMCA.     This class is typically $10 so if you haven't tried it yet, come join in on Mondays while the cost is covered for you. 

Earn a $25 gift card with a Focus Group:  AgeSpan is collaborating with BetterAge on a project funded by the U.S. National Institute on Aging to develop and test the Adult Wellbeing CheckUp (AWC), a new digital tool designed to help older adults improve their health and wellbeing.  I’d like to invite you to participate in a research focus group to help us develop the best possible service.  The purpose of the focus group (which will be conducted on Zoom) is to speak directly with older adults to gather feedback that will help us refine and enhance the AWC platform before it is launched more broadly. 

Who Can Participate:  If you are 60 or older, can read and speak English, Have Internet Access and are comfortable with basic online tools like Email and Zoom.

What's Expected of you:  Online Group Discussion on Zoom 60-90 min,  Sharing Thoughts and Experiences on wellbeing, healthy aging and using digital tools.  Reviewing and giving feedback on the AWC tool.

Health and Wellness: 

We are excited to announce that the Monthly Wellness Check Visits with a nurse returns in January.   The fourth Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m.- Noon.

SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone…on or eligible for Medicare)

If you are turning 65 and have questions about Medicare, already have Medicare and have questions about Medicare, Medicare Savings Programs, MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid) or any other Medicare related concerns, SHINE counselors can help! You may have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to make changes to your Medicare plan for a limited time. SEPs are limited to specific situations. If you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO, HMO-POS, PPO) you can change to Original Medicare with a Medigap and a Drug Plan or change to a different Medicare Advantage Plan. Or, if your Part D plan has been discontinued in January, you may have a SEP to change your plan. Timelines vary for these SEPs so be sure to reach out to SHINE to learn if you have these options. A SHINE counselor will review your coverage and will help determine if you are qualified to make a change at this time of year. 

Certified SHINE counselors offer free, unbiased, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insurance to anyone on or eligible for Medicare and help you understand Medicare and your options.
