Honoring Dunstable Women of World War II
During World War II, several women from Dunstable, answered the call to serve in the U.S. military. Helen Louise Bailey transitioned from teaching at the Union School to enlisting in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate Second Class. Mildred Cecilia Pillsbury and Geraldine Anita Corn both served in the U.S. Marine Corps, with Corn rising to the rank of Corporal. Cynthia Nourse Goldthwaite served in the U.S. Navy at the Charlestown Naval Base, while Doris Mae Brow also served in the Navy before continuing her dedication to Dunstable as Town Clerk. Eleanor Louise Goldthwaite became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, serving as a dietitian at Camp Forrest, and Dorothy Melvin Goldthwaite joined the Women's Army Corps as a Hospital Dental Technician. These remarkable women played vital roles in military service, breaking barriers and shaping history, both in their service and in their contributions to the Dunstable community.
