Dunstable awarded close to $900,000 in state and federal grants to advance local priority projects

The Town has been awarded close to $900,000 in new grant funding to support local priorities in public safety, transportation, recreation, senior wellness, and digital access. These competitive state and federal grants will help the Town make improvements to its infrastructure and equipment, enhance public safety, and expanding access and recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.


Advancing Design for the Town Center Trail Loop – $64,000 MassTrails Grant

Dunstable’s application to the 2025 MassTrails Grant Program has been selected for funding. This state program supports the development and improvement of shared-use paths, rail trails, and outdoor recreation across the Commonwealth. This award will advance the design of the Town Center Trail Loop Project, improving off-road connectivity and pedestrian access to Town Center and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

Senior Wellness Programming – $5,000 AgeSpan Title III Grant

The Town has received a $5,000 Title III grant from AgeSpan to create health and wellness programming for residents ages 60 and older. The new Senior Wellness Program will include a rotating weekly exercise series featuring Zumba, Yoga, Barre Fusion, and Meditation, as well as monthly Reiki sessions. The program is designed to nurture the mind, body, and spirit, and is open to residents of all interests and abilities.

Fire Department Forestry Truck Replacement – $285,000 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant

Through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Dunstable has been awarded $285,000 to replace its 1986 forestry truck with a modern vehicle designed for brush fires and off-road emergencies. The Town is required to fund a local match of $15,000 toward the total cost of the new truck. The truck will improve the Fire Department’s ability to respond to emergencies and support mutual aid efforts with neighboring communities.

Route 113 Complete Streets Design – $475,000 Massachusetts Rural Development Fund

The Town has secured a $475,000 state grant to design safety and accessibility improvements along Route 113 from Main and Pleasant Streets to the site of the proposed MCO Cottage Rentals affordable housing project. The design will focus on the construction of sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike-friendly infrastructure to create a safer, more walkable roadway connecting residents to Town Hall, Swallow Union Elementary School, public safety buildings, recreational fields and playground, and local businesses.

Digital Access and Inclusion – $41,600 Massachusetts Digital Equity Implementation Grant

A $41,600 Digital Equity Grant from the Massachusetts Municipal Digital Equity Implementation Program will fund:

  • Upgraded videoconferencing equipment in Town Hall meeting rooms for improved remote and hybrid public participation
  • Six interactive smart boards for Groton Dunstable High School classrooms
  • A laptop lending program at the Dunstable Free Public Library
  • A new intergenerational partnership pairing high school students with older adults to provide one-on-one technology support
