Winter's not over yet, but we can begin to feel Spring Creeping around the corner and we're excited for all we have blooming for those who are actively aging in Dunstable.    Do you want to get involved more in the community?  The Council could always use volunteers!  Whether it's potentially joining our board or having your name on a list when we may need resources, contact Chuck to become involved.  Contact info below.

Free Crystal Sound Bowl Healing Session at Town Hall (Lower Level) -  Sunday March 8th at 2 p.m.    Experience the power of vibrational healing with "VibesbyCTina"   Whether you would like to relax in a chair or bring your own yoga mat/bolster to lay on the floor, all that is asked of you is to show up as your are, listen to the music and relax.   Events of this nature usually cost $30-50 per session but this is being covered by a Wellness Grant from AgeSpan.    Space is limited to just 20 participants, so please register in advance at the library luncheon or by messaging Chuck.    

Fireman's Breakfast and Groton Hill Music Concert -  For the second year in a row, we are excited to offer this Brunch and Concert Combo.   In place of the weekly luncheon, we will be attending a Free Concert at Groton Hill Music Center on  Wednesday March 18th.    Fresh from Broadway, Movies and TV is Dunstable Resident BeBe Wood with Pianist Gaurav Mishra.   Bebe is likely best know for her starring role in the Major Motion Picture : Mean Girls the Musical.    Prior to the concert, all attendees are welcome to gather at Town Hall for a breakfast sponsored by the Fireman's Association.   Breakfast will be served at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall Lower Level to give us time to eat, socialize and then head over to concert venue.  Transportation will not be provided but we are happy to help facilitate carpooling.    Space and tickets are limited so please make sure to reserve your space for the concert and breakfast as soon as possible.   You won't want to miss this one!    Just a couple spots remain! 

Peacock Players: ALL SHOOK UP featuring the music of Elvis Presley.  We are planning an excursion to see this musical in Nashua on Saturday May 16th   2 p.m. Matinee.   Council on aging is purchasing a block of 25 tickets and will cover part of the ticket.   We are asking for $10 per ticket.   These tickets will be transferable but non-refundable once you sign up.    We are also planning to gather for lunch ( not covered by COA) at Casa Vieja Mexican Grill just a short walk from the venue, let us know if you would like to join for lunch and we can add you to our reservation.   

Upcoming Weekly Wednesday Luncheons at The Dunstable Public Library (unless noted otherwise).   Please remember to ensure we have enough food, your reservation for lunch must be made by the prior Wednesday.   You can sign up at the luncheon or by reaching out to Chuck at [email protected] or 978-649-4514x223    A suggested contribution of $5 from those who can afford it, is greatly appreciated to offset costs, this is voluntary please do not let it stop you from attending.   Lunch is served at Noon but the space is available from 10-2 p.m.  Before and after lunch, there are several games you can join in on including Scrabble & Mexican Train Dominoes.  Please see individual dates for unique entertainment or guests.  

February 25th-  Chicken Tenders.   Special Guest Speaker following Lunch.     Age Span 101- Learn all about Age Span the program that provided the free ring cameras, tablets, nutrition counseling and so much more.  Learn about what they offer and how it can benefit you.    If you have not signed up, we have had a few cancellations and can accomodate a few more reservations.   If you would like to only join for the AgeSpan presentation please plan to arrive at 12:30 p.m. as we will start immediatley following lunch.  

March 4th -  Turkey & Swiss Sandwich, Ginger Carrot Soup and Salad 

March 11th - Traveling Chef : Bread Bowl Soups with your choice of Corn Chowder or Veggie & Bean, Garden Salad and Dessert.     This will also be our monthly BINGO! Game.  $5 for each or $10 for both. Please arrive no later than 12:30 pm if you are just playing Bingo but traveling chef gets rave reviews for their lunches!    Bingo includes 5 games with Cash and Gift Card Prizes.   Last month we gave out over $150 in prizes over the 5 games.    The more who come the bigger the jackpot. 

March 18th- The Library will be open for game playing but lunch will not be served as we are having the Concert Excursion to Groton Hill Music Center following the Fireman's Breakfast at Town Hall Lower Level ( see above for information)

March 25th - Potato Crunch Fish Fillets with Lemon & Herb CousCous and Minestrone Soup. 

COUNCIL ON AGING EXERCISE PROGRAM

Bone Builders Exercise Class is free to residents at the Dunstable Public Library on Wednesdays at 10:30 A.M. and Friday at 11:15 A.M.  If you have not participated before, please feel free to stop by to observe and pick up enrollment paperwork.  

FREE!  Fit Over 50 "Fitness Fusion Class"  -  As part of a Wellness Grant from Age Span this has been extended through February.  This is a great class for those who are looking for a class that might be a little more challenging than Bone Builders. This Class Meets Monday Mornings at 11:30 a.m. at Town Hall Lower Level and is FREE!   Fitness Fusion combines a variety of exercise styles to offer a low impact but powerful session that targets all areas of the body with great music and a fun atmosphere with a great instructor from the YMCA.     This class is typically $10 so if you haven't tried it yet, come join in on Mondays while the cost is covered for you.   Special Instructor this upcoming Monday!   Ellen Returns for one week to cover! 

AROUND TOWN: 

The recreation commission is excited to welcome back Spiritual Medium Laura Wooster to Town Hall on March 29th at 1:30 p.m.    The last time Laura visited bringing messages from spirit, they had over 80 people at Town Hall for an unforgettable experience.   Tickets are now available here:  https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__unipaygold.unibank....

Tax Prep Services from AARP are available in February and March at the Albert Harris Senior Center in Pepperell . Call 978-433-0326 to make an appointment.   

Health and Wellness: 

 Monthly Wellness Check Visits with a nurse are back the fourth Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m.- Noon.  THIS WEEK!

SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone…on or eligible for Medicare)

If you are turning 65 and have questions about Medicare, already have Medicare and have questions about Medicare, Medicare Savings Programs, MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid) or any other Medicare related concerns, SHINE counselors can help! You may have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to make changes to your Medicare plan for a limited time. SEPs are limited to specific situations. If you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO, HMO-POS, PPO) you can change to Original Medicare with a Medigap and a Drug Plan or change to a different Medicare Advantage Plan. Or, if your Part D plan has been discontinued in January, you may have a SEP to change your plan. Timelines vary for these SEPs so be sure to reach out to SHINE to learn if you have these options. A SHINE counselor will review your coverage and will help determine if you are qualified to make a change at this time of year.
