PFAS Mitigation Project Update and Community Meeting
The project team has prepared a project update on the PFAS Mitigation Project.
To provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the project and ask questions, the project team will host a Community Information Forum at Groton Town Hall on August 6, 2026, at 6 PM. The project team has also created a website for the project that will be used to update and inform residents throughout the project.
Before Phase 1 was completed, additional testing in 2025 identified an increased PFAS plume in areas near the high school. PFAS impacts were identified along Ready Meadow Road, Raddin Road, Hawtree Way in Groton, and additional portions of Kemp Street and Groton Street in Dunstable.
Fortunately, the initial Phase 1 portion of the project came in approximately $2.1 million less than anticipated and with these savings Raddin Road, Hawtree Way, and additional work on Kemp Street is being incorporated into the project. The remaining newly-impacted areas (Ready Meadow Road and Groton Street) are being incorporated into Phase 2.
Phase 2 includes improvements along Jersey Street in Pepperell, North Street and Ready Meadow Road in Groton, and Groton Street in Dunstable. It will also provide private water service connections to PFAS-impacted properties. This portion of the project is being supported in part by a $5 million EPA Emerging Contaminants Grant secured by Pepperell and a $1 million EPA grant secured by Groton. Fortunately, Phase 2 also received favorable construction bids. As a result, available funding can be used to provide curb-to-curb pavement restoration along affected roadways, with final paving anticipated in early 2027.
