Updated Notice Regarding Special Town Meeting on 1/28/21

The Board of Selectmen has called a Special Town Meeting for Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 7 pm at Swallow-Union School gymnasium. The meeting is necessary to address a vote required to allow the Route 113 Road Improvements project to proceed on schedule with state and federal funding, there will also be an article authorizing the Board of Selectmen to negotiate a lease for cell antenna equipment on the water tank. There will be no bylaw changes or matters that may affect the tax rate.

The Selectmen will be working closely with the Board of Health and other stakeholders to ensure that the meeting is conducted as safely as possible.  Based on the COVID-19 infection rates, the Selectmen in consultation with the Board of Health has voted to lower the quorum requirement to 10 registered voters for this meeting based emergency legislation issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (more than 10 registered voters may attend).

Planned safety protocols include:

  • Space will be pre-cleaned prior to use
  • Outer doors will remain open during the meeting
  • Participant seat will be arranged in excess of the 6’ social distancing requirement
  • N95 safety masks will be available for all participants (pick yours up at Voter Check-In), masks are to be worn throughout the meeting
  • Plexi glass shields and sanitizers will be available in appropriate areas

The Board of Selectmen are keeping the meeting warrant as short as possible to aid the speed of the meeting and focus on non-controversial topics. If you are vulnerable or sick, we encourage you not to attend this Special Town Meeting. In the event of inclement weather for January 28, 2021, it is anticipated the Town Moderator will reschedule the Special Town Meeting to Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the same time and location.
