Working Fire, 60 Pond Street

On March 1, 2014 at approximately 9:00am, a Unstable Resident reported a barn on fire at 60 Pond Street. Within minutes Chief Brian Rich arrived on scene and a found a fully involved barn fire with a chicken coop attached, that housed some chickens. The Chief requested a working fire that brought mutual aid from Proton, Pepperell, Tyngsboro and Hudson NH to the scene. A Nashua Engine covered the station while crews worked at the building fire. There was a minor injury to one resident who refused treatment. The chickens were rescued, without injury. Unfortunately the barn and its contents were a complete loss.

Where firefighters learn how to use air packs and find fire fighters   2011

2011 Firefighter Down Training

During this year, firefighters trained on saving one another. A fire fighter was placed some where in the building, and another fire fighter had to go find them, while there mask was blacked out. When the fire fighter arrived at the other fire fighter, they had to simulate whats called buddy breathing using connections from the air tank. These air tanks are equipped with whats called "RIT Connections, aka Rapid Intervention Team Connections." This RIT connection allows fire fighters to take a hose from there breathing tanks to the other firefighter and help them breath, or even fill there tank so they can exit the building.

Blitz Nozzle

The Blitzfire Nozzle

This new and important piece of equipment is call the Blitzfire Nozzle. It can flow up to 500 gallon's per minute, and oscillate up and down and back to forth. This nozzle is called a monitor, or master stream in firefighting lingo. This nozzle can supply large volumes of water at low psi to gain control of a fire. This nozzle was made by Task Force Tips in Valparaiso Indian. Lots of the equipment that we have on the trucks come from this great company. If you would like more information about this piece of equipment, or would like to see this piece of equipment, contact the fire chief.

The water thief is a small, gated manifold-type appliance that was developed in the late 1930s. It is used to regulate the pressure and volume of water coming from the water source; engine or tanker drafting from another site. It can also me used to charge additional supply lines using both the left and right 2.5 inch shutoffs.

This piece of equipment is housed on Engine 6, and is used for most incidents involving water supply situations.
