History tells us each younger generation fails to completely appreciate the important generational perspective that our senior citizen population develops through a lifetime of experiences. Sometimes our younger generations continue to repeat the foolish mistakes of the past instead of taking the time to learn from the wisdom of our predecessors.
This article recognizes the value of senior citizens and their contributions to our community. It is these distinguished members of our community that have spent a life time in developing a wealth of life experiences that may provide further learning and understanding during challenging times.
Not that long ago, many senior citizens shared similar trials and tribulations while continuing to cope and endure. The wisdom and strength gained from their experiences no doubt provides greater individual coping ability, but provides us an opportunity to manage during adverse conditions while not repeating the mistakes of the past.
The wisdom of the senior citizen rarely emerges during the proclamation of a distinguished oratory or in the presence of great luminaries. In contrast, it is more likely that a glimpse of elderly wisdom may be witnessed at the seat of the family table or among the presence of a families and friends. The words of insight might be ingeniously masked during a senior citizen commentary of the "good old days" or perhaps during a backyard storytelling session that may seem never to end. We may find it well be worth the time to listen to not only the spoken words, but the specific intent of these words.
Although senior citizen health concerns may take precedent with age, the spirit of their community contribution is remarkably notable. As community stakeholders, many senior citizens continue to contribute their time and former work experience to the community while augmenting the benefits of neighborhood friendship. You may have seen one of our seniors volunteering on a town board or volunteering at the Town Hall. Others might be seen volunteering to read to elementary school children while others might be actively working for the Town. For many, it might be easy to retire to a reclusive lifestyle and abandon their stewardship to the community. Therefore, to the many seniors of the community that continue to give and share of themselves, we say: "Hats off and thank you for your continued service."
On another note, the Police Department wishes all Halloween goers a safe and happy Halloween. Parents and children are reminded to practice pedestrian safety and wear bright clothes with masks that do not limit sight. Children should be accompanied with parents and all pedestrians should have adequate lighting. Additional officers will be on patrol to assist where needed.
Until next time!
