SENIOR CITIZEN ALL POINTS BULLETIN June 10, 2008 Hello, I am writing this article on a hot scorching summer day. The Summer Fest has come to an end unlike this heat wave. I have to give a round of applause to the Dunstable Seniors who worked the Summer Fest. They are truly dedicated to their cause. Many people stayed home due to the heat however, the Dunstable Seniors were out there selling their crafts and raising money for their organization. Just a few scams to tell you about this summer. Be careful of anyone calling and claiming they are with the IRS. They are asking you for your social security number and bank account number. These caller state that they need it to process you federal rebate check. This is not the IRS, DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION to them. I can assure you that the IRS already has that information and will not be calling you for it. For other helpful information you can visit the IRS at their web site http://www.irs.gov . I also was reading a crime bulletin that said that there was two men going around claiming to be running a driveway seal coating business. Looks like they want the money up front and then they never come back to do the job. Be sure to check the companies credentials, it does not hurt to be extra cautious. A good web site to check out is the Better Business Bureau http://boston.bbb.org they have a top 10 list of businesses that have received complaints. Some of the businesses on there may surprise you. Even though you may be taking the summer off, the crooks are still hard at work. Make sure to guard you identity because a thief will steal your life faster than you can believe. Another service that the Dunstable Police Department offers to it’s seniors and citizens is house checks. If you are planning to go away this summer you can give us a call and we’ll add you to our house check list. It’s always nice to know someone is watching your property while you are gone. Finally I hope to see all of you at the end of the summer luncheon. This summer the Dunstable Police Union is picking up the tab. We will be eating at Scupper Jacks in Acton, MA. http://www.scupperjacks.com I’ve heard a lot of chitter-chatter over the lobster. In my next article I’ll have to report back to you on that dish. I wish all of you a happy summer and stay out the hot sun, I know I will J Until I see you again, Darrell Gilmore,Sergeant DPD
