I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather, after this winter we all need a little warmth. The forecast shows rain for the next few days. I hope that we do not have any of the horrible flooding that has occurred over the past few years.
Just remember never attempt to cross any flooded road ways. Once a road is flooded there is no way of telling how unstable the road way has become. Turn around and go back. If you do not see any caution signs, please give us a call. Flash flooding can occur very quick and to sooner we can block off the road the better.
Driving during heavy rains is also no fun. Make sure you have good tires. Driving with bad tires during heavy rain could cause Hydroplaning. I've said it time and time again, If the Weather is bad STAY HOME.
Another thing to remember is that basement flooding can be very dangerous. If you have a gas furnace or hot water heater, extremely deep water can cause your pilot to go out. This may release gas into your basement. If you fear that this may have happened and smell gas, call 911 and alert the Fire Department. Also if you use pumps to keep your basement dry, be extra careful with the electrical cords. A wet basement floor and electricity is very dangerous. Let's just pray for those May flowers J
Last time we met on April 2nd and Michel Ellis from the Registry of Motor Vehicles gave a presentation on mature drivers. Michel presented some very good information. If you missed this meeting, you can see me for more information. As usual I grabbed a few extra hand outs for those who did not attend. I also have plenty of "file of life", and emergency cell phones left.
The internet safety brochures that I had ordered for you finally came in. I will bring them to you for our May meeting. I will also bring information on the state and federal Do Not Call List as requested. Bring a mail bag because once again I have plenty of hand outs . . .
Until I see you in May,
Stay safe,
Darrell Gilmore,
Sergeant DPD
