Police Chief's message for January

With the beginning of the New Year, the Town of Dunstable heralds a renaissance of magnificent proportion. For decades an overshadowing elongated monster had stood in the island at the intersection of Main Street and Pleasant Street. Yes, the unsightly bowed telephone pole with its snaking utility wires has finally been removed. A clear conspicuous view can be seen from the water trough down Pleasant Street. Perhaps, the historical green will represent a new vision.

The Dunstable Police Department would like to share with you our vision for the upcoming calendar year. The Police Department will continue to expand its traditional community policing role while providing strong emphasis in areas of traffic enforcement, accident prevention, domestic abuse, drug enforcement, identity theft, elder care/abuse, and other specific areas important to the community. The Police Department will continue to develop strategies that provide for crime prevention education in combination with customary law enforcement. In addition, Sergeant Gilmore will remain available to serve the elderly through the TRIAD program.

Throughout the upcoming year, officers will receive a variety of cost effective police training in order to continue to serve you better. Officers will receive much of this training through monthly in-house training programs and computer distance learning sessions. Mandatory training programs will remain a staple of our training program.

In partnership with the Dunstable Fire and Emergency Management, the Dunstable Police Department will lead a mock search and rescue exercise while integrating all Dunstable public safety disciplines. The funding of this exercise has been provided through a grant received by the Dunstable Police Department. Upon the completion of this mock exercise, Dunstable Public Safety officials will review and evaluate performance results.

Hopefully this information has provided you with a quick snapshot of what the Police Department hopes to achieve in the upcoming year. As always, our greatest success comes with your continued community support.

We wish everyone the best for the upcoming year, and hope to best serve your public safety needs!

P.S. Children sledding are encouraged to wear helmets.
