The Steep Canyon Rangers of North Carolina, the International Bluegrass Music Association's 2006 Emerging Artists of the Year, will play a concert to benefit the Nashua River Watershed Association (NRWA), on Saturday, January 19th at 8:00 PM, at the Grace Fellowship Church, 43 Main Street in Nashua, NH. Tickets are $15 for NRWA members and students and $18 for non-members-they make a great holiday gift. Proceeds will support the NRWA's water protection, land stewardship, and environmental education programs in 31 communities in north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The Steep Canyon Rangers have played at the Grand Ole Opry; here is an opportunity to see them perform without a trip to Nashville.
The Steep Canyon Rangers, a young band with a deep dedication to traditional bluegrass, have carved out a special spot in the world of bluegrass music, creating a sound that looks forward and backwards at the same time. All five band members are extremely talented musicians known for their top notch picking skills and strong vocal harmony. "These guys play traditional bluegrass of the highest order, blazingly fast and so tight you couldn't even slip in a thirty-second note," writes Anson Burtch, Jambase.com, of their performance at Merlefest 2007. Since signing with Rebel Records, they've produced three albums with critically acclaimed original material-- The Steep Canyon Rangers (2004), One Dime at a Time (2005) with a #1 hit Single, and Lovin' Pretty Women (2007). The title track Lovin' Pretty Women currently ranks #8 on the Singles chart and the album sits at #10 on the Album chart at Bluegrass Limited Magazine.
