Unfortunately, due to sporadic mail thefts, particularly during the winter holidays, the rural carriers will no longer leave packages on mail boxes or any place the package can readily be seen. If the carrier cannot leave a package in your mailbox and s/he knows you may be home, s/he will attempt to deliver your package by blowing the horn of their vehicle, as prescribed for rural delivery. If the carrier cannot deliver a package securely, s/he will leave a slip informing you that the package is at the Post Office. Also as a precaution, do not put outgoing mail in your mailbox overnight. Wait till morning to put the mail out and then put the flag up so the carrier knows to stop and pick it up.
