Polling location, hours and expectations

The official polling location for all elections is the Dunstable Free Public Library.

State and Federal election polling hours: 7:00am to 8:00pm
Local election polling hours: 12:00 noon to 8:00pm.

Voters registered by mail will be asked to provide a valid ID at the polls.

Privacy sleeves are available from the check in clerks. If you are concerned about the privacy of your ballot, please request a privacy sleeve after you check in [be sure to return them before leaving the polls!]

Voter Assist Terminal - As of the 2007 May Town Election, Dunstable will have an Automark Voter Assist Terminal available at the polls. The Automark is designed to provide privacy and accessibility to voters who are vision-impaired or have a disability or condition that would make it difficult or impossible to mark a paper ballot in the usual way. In addition, the technology provides language assistance to voters who do not speak English or have reading limitations.

Census non-respondents are now marked “inactive voters”. You will be asked for identification and be required to sign an “Affirmation of Current and Continuous Residency” affidavit before receiving a ballot.

Provisional Voting, pursuant to federal law and as directed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Francis Galvin, is now in effect in Massachusetts. The Help America Vote Act of 2002, a newly enacted federal law, establishes certain new provisions relative to voting in federal elections. One such provision requires so-called “fail-safe voting”, otherwise known in the Act as provisional voting. A provisional ballot will now be provided to any person who declares that they are a registered voter in the precinct with a claim they are eligible to vote. Certain information will be gathered from the individual through a process as outlined in HAVA and the determination of whether that ballot is counted is made AFTER the close of the polls. The individual has the right to contact their State Election Office to determine whether or not their ballot was counted. Contact the Town Clerk for further information.
