Through careful planning, Dunstable has managed to maintain its rural character and open space, while still allowing a significant amount of growth, particularly during the 90's. Dunstable aims to manage the rate of growth so that taxpayers are not unduly strained by the impact of growth on the town's infrastructure.
In recent years, the Dunstable developed a plan for providing more affordable housing to ensure that the community retains its economic and age diversity. In 2006, the town adopted the Community Preservation Act as a long-term strategy for funding affordable housing projects, as well as the preservation of Dunstable's history and conservation of it's open space.
