The Dunstable Police Department is actively recruiting capable Dunstable residents that may wish to volunteer as Neighborhood Captains.
These individuals would provide a valuable service to the community during specific weather related emergencies (i.e., ice storms, major power outages, etc.)
Specifically, Neighborhood Captains would serve as “points of contacts” and be asked to work with public safety officials in order to hand deliver public safety information to a small network of households within the neighborhood captains residential neighborhood. This method of disseminating public safety information would be reserved at times when all other means of usual communication have failed. Hand delivered information might inform residents about: available shelters, evacuation plans, power outages, location of meals and/or other emergency assistance. Neighborhood Captains could serve as an important conduit of information when public safety resources are strained.
Interested volunteers who may wish to give a small amount of their time in order to better serve the community while assisting public safety officials are encouraged to call the Dunstable Police Department or Emergency Management committee at (978) 649-8891 ext. 221, and leave a message stating your name, address and telephone number and a staff member will contact you. You may also select the option below and fill in your information and have a staff member contact you.
We anticipate setting up a future meeting with interested persons to discuss this important role. Please do not expect your neighbor will call. This is an opportunity to serve your community with limited responsibility, but with utmost importance. In order to implement a successful network of “Neighborhood Captains”, we anticipate we need at least 50-80 volunteers who reside in various parts of the community.
Please take the time to consider this opportunity to serve. We thank you in the “spirit of community partnership”!
